VIP is an endogenous 28-amino acid neuropeptide belonging to the glucagon/secretin superfamily. In vascular and smooth muscle tissue slices, it is used as a tool to measure adenylate cyclase coupling and examine VIP1/VIP2 receptor distribution patterns during inflammatory reactions.
