SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a water-soluble, cell-permeable tetrapeptide containing alternating aromatic and basic amino acids. It exhibits targeted binding affinity for cardiolipin located on the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is utilized in organelle-stress models to study the prevention of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) opening.
