Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide sequence based on a stabilized fragment of Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH 4-7). It is used as an assay standard to observe the induction of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) mRNA expression in neural cell structures.
