Melanotan-1 is a synthetic, linear peptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It functions as a non-selective agonist with strong preference for the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R). It is studied in vitro to measure tyrosinase enzyme activation and track melanin pigmentation pathway kinetics.
